can anyone tell me if the connecting rods used in the uno 1.3 turbo are made of stronger steel?any one wants to sell a set of original uno 14 turbo conrods

a connecting rod or in short conrod is a rod which links the piston to the crankshaft.the stronger the power required the stronger they have to be.
at the moment i`ve got 1.3 turbo ones but i would like the stronger 1.4 turbo rods since they r made of stronger material

I bought a set of 4 custom forged H beam con rods for my 1242 8V project and they came under 250euros;) , they should hold to at least 400hp and that's more then the Uno turbo can make on the stock crank:D

The 1.3 are forged and 1.4 have cast rods..

I heard/ read somewhere that the 1.3 turbo engine is actually stronger than the 1.4.

Maybe the reason is that the 1.3 does have forged conrods rather than cast. Forging makes the metal much stronger, but is more expensive to make.

By the way, does the turbo engine use a steel crankshaft? Anyone know?

FIAT uses tuftriding process to strengthen the cast crankshaft.

Have you tried shotpeening, i got the stock crank and rods on the 999cc fire to 180 hp and it's been holding for 7000kms of track abuse, not bad for parts designed to hold 45hp stock;) .

I intend to push the 1242 to around 250hp on the stock crank:D

hi smokeme thanks for your replies.the motor i`m building is of a friend of mine hope to get it ready by the end of this year.i own 2 other uno 45 one of which is turbo charged and raced in local hillclimbs www.islandcarclub.com
the engine internals are all standard accecpt the flywheel which is made of stronger steel and bigger clutch.i also added a craddle to increase the block strenght and made wire rings for better sealing.compratio reduced true machining of piston crown.turbo is a hybrid kkk prepared by a italian friend of mine (grazie alfio).it blows true a thema intercooler and fuel controled by an x renault 5 turbo carb.drivetrain is 6 speed g/box from the punto sporting.
future projects are to change to fuel injection, fit punto 75 head, increase boost to 1.5bar and have some fun.

hope u finish your 1242 cc 8 v soon to c the results
i`ve seen on a mag elaborare a fiat 600 fitted with the 1242cc 16v twin turbo
182bhp nice little beast.

There is no reason to twin turbo a 1242 except for talks/show since a single turbo can provide more air then the engine can use, the hybrid T25 that i'm using can flow to 350hp and i doubt i'll need another one:D .

The stock pistons won't hold 1.5bar because the ring lands will crack and so will the pins. Best option for that boost is forged pistons or destroke using stock turbo pistons to get a lower cr. Don't skim cast pistons to run high boost or it will cost when the engine blows.

Also the stock head on the Uno turbo won't flow past 225hp without porting.

Which ECU code though, there are two ecus that i haven't been able to get yet (1108 and 1242 8V)I prefer to use aftermarket ecus after too many mods since it would require extensive reprogramming of the stock unit not to mention sensor changes to get it working right.

how much does it cost an aftermarket ecu?at the moment i`m searching for the right 1.locally we use dta and lumenition mosty.thanks for your help by the way

I can only recomend what i've used in this case it's megasquit if you want cheap and FAST if you want lots of options. FAST is not worth the money it costs IMO;)
