Well, FINALLY managed to get work to shell out for some 'training' i.e certification.

CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ and Server+ to do, distance learning over 12 months.

I think I could have 'em all in 6, if that.

You may have seen my other topic on ISO 27k1, I want to do the advanced Security+ and maybe even further that and afterwards help my company achieve that. I may be needing further advice from Dr. Zoidberg in the future!

Has anyone else done those exams? If so, what like?

Yeah, a+ and n+ are meant to be quite basic, security and server are the ones I wanted, they were 1200, so I'm getting 4 for 1600. I think its a good foundation, ill be going for whatever they call mcsa now in 2 years time.

I'v done CompTIA A+ the exam was easy but like chrisUK says the stuff you learn isn't necessarily useful also some of it is kinda outdated now

as for security I'm now doing a course with the EC-council to get CEH status

I qualified for A+ in 2009 and struggled to get a job until an apprenticeship I'm doing now came up. I'm planning to try out the MCITP course after the apprenticeship, but also heard that programmers are different species so might try programming too. :)

It depends on what you want to be really because I fancied being a field engineer but then changed my mind to network engineer.
