As my bodykit is now all on, still have some tidying up to do, but i'm fairly happy with the progress...i have started thinking about getting it all sprayed.

I haven't got any quotes yet, but the places round my way are very expensive (IMO)...

My brother got quoted £240 for simply having his bump strips sprayed on his clio :(

So pre empting the huge quote, i have thought about doing it myself (Oh dear! ;))

As i probably need to spray my whole front and back bumpers, from the strips down on the sides and i would also like to touch up the huge amount of stone chips on my bonnet. I am thinking it is far too much of an area for the humble spray cans...lol

So i have been thinking of getting a compressor...

I have seen this one, looks abit like the one Joske bought and wondered if it would be suitable?

One-cylinder air compressor, complete with sixpiece accessory set. Easy to use, it features a directly coupled motor and built-in starter, relief pressure reducer, air intake filter and pressure switch, regulator gauge, self-stop quick coupling, drain valve and safety valve. The accessory kit comprises tyre pressure gauge, blow-out gun, air hose and three-piece adaptor set.

230 volt
Speed 2850/min-1
Operating pressure 8 bar
Air intake capacity 210 litres per min
Air output at 0 bar = 140 litres per min.

If not any one know of one that would be suitable, that doesn't cost the earth?

Also, does anyone have an idea on how much paint i will need, a rough cost and anywhere online i could buy some?

Alot of questions i know, but hopefully i will get some good advice and hopefully have plenty of time to get the kit sprayed before my first meet :)

I supose doing a full respray with something like this isn't advisable? :)

My front bumper, mask, and bonnet was sprayed last week, they needed about 2,5 dL (0,25L) of paint to do it. So U can buy 0,5L and U will be OK - IMO.
Spraying isnt hard, but U will need appropriate jets for the spray gun, I mean 1 whit a relative wide spray stripe, but flat.

Forgot to say, if U will be using two tone colour, and the colour is a metal based one, U will need a ”bake” chamber, cos. the metal paint needs to be baked.
And putt on in two coats, first the colour, than the clear colour (dont know the ENG name)
+ the compresor is OK

Not a hope from that compressor, maybe bumpstrips but nothing much bigger. I have a 50ltr and its not enough for spray work.

Cheap sprayguns are also pretty **** :)

Conflicting statement then...lol

If that one wouldn't work then, can you recommend one?

And where's that bloody Paul R when you need him...lol

Daz

Sprayshops have HUGE compressors. Even with 50ltr compressor you only get 30-40secs of use before the motor kicks in and you have to stop. Use a good gun and that will be more like 20secs as they use a HUGE amount of air.

You only really need an oven if you want to spray things quickly.

Can you see if you can find one you could recommend please Tom...

Daz

Thanks Sven for the good links...

Still don't know what i need though :(

lol

Daz

Oh well, too late, i have bought it now...

I would have thought even if its not ideal, its gotta be better than a spraycan?

If it works great, if not i'll stick it on ebay or find some other use for it...:)

Right gotta find some paint now...lol

Daz

brown brothers or partco fella. give them the paint code and they will mix it up whilst you wait fairly cheap :)

Niether of those round my way :(

Anywhere online i can get some?
Or
Any other places what could mix it for me?

I am going to do some testing over the next few days and depending on how it turns out, i may go for a full respray...lol

Daz

please be careful Daz, there's a few novas round here that have been self sprayed and its pretty obvious too...they look **** ;)

hate to say it but maybe halfords if it comes down to it matey :(

I won't be going to Halfords again...:(

My brother seems to have the knack, he sprayed his bump strips (i know they are not huge, but they are much bigger than on the Bravo/a's) and they came out really well, fantastic in fact...so i might let him loose on it...:)

I seem to be ok with a can, so we will just have to wait and see what this compressor is like...

Daz

Not saying i am going to do it, but does anyone know how much paint i would need if i wanted to spray the whole car?

Daz

Hi Daz,

Been away for a few days and just seen the post. My compressor was great spraying my sideskirts, bump strips etc. Take your time and you can do alot with it.

I think its a good deal i noticed it earlier in the week and it comes with tools aswell where i had to buy mine.

Haven't done any big work like a bonnet but i can't see why it wouldn't do it.

Best money i've spent alot better than a spray can. I got my paint from a local paint shop.

Joske
