Cold starting problem

Hi,


My fiat punto grande 2006 will not start first thing on a morning. When I turn it on the engine starts briefly then cuts out... It takes around about 50 turns of the key to get it working and you need to put a few revs on to stop it cutting out for first few seconds... A warning message comes up on the dash saying warning fluid temperature at max.. The fan also comes on even though car is cold???? But once it it is running it runs fine all day and starts fine once switched off as long as you don't leave it off too long... The engine management light came on which apparently said it was a cold start sensor, we had this changed and it achieved nothing same problem. We also had a new battery this also solved nothing. The ECU has been tested this is fine no problem there.. Mechanic not sure what it is..any ideas??? read somewhere something about MAP sensor any substance to this?? need desperate help!!!!

Hmm then it's not ecu related indeed.

What sensor you replaced ?
Coolant sensor on thermostat?

I think the mechanic said it was the cold start sensor..

There is not such thing.

There is a coolant sensor that is on thermostat.

And there is also an air temp (intake manifold) sensor (it's a MAP sensor also)

coolant sensor I meant....that's what we swapped because the engine management light came on and the diagnostics checker said it was that.. But it didn't work and the engine management light came on again saying it was the same thing. so once again we changed it in case the part was faulty but no still didn't work ...

You have to inspect sensor values when this is happening (cold start)

Check manifold temp sensor value also.

(and of course cables etc to be sure it's nothing like that)

Hi everyone,

We changed the battery wasn't that. We changed coolant temp sensor sensor and that didn't solve it. Ecu was tested and fine..

Finally we changed the MAP sensor and now it starts first time!!! Every time!!

Only problem now is that when the car starts it still says excess fluid temp.. I heard this May be due to the ecu needing an update?? It doesn't affect the car at all just comes up saying that when it is first started.. May be a problem if we ever try to sell it. Any ideas???

Not a problem. Don't worry about it and don't do anything imo.

It's a very common occurrence/little fault. Mine does it on and off, and countless others too. The whole summer I haven't seen it but recently it was back again. The message should disappear within a few seconds after starting up.

Good to see it was that MAP sensor. Happy motoring now.
