Coil Pack??

Yesterday I had finally saved the money to get 4 new tyres for my alloys so I could put them back on The bravo! Then on the way to get them fitted I was pulling off from the lights and the car started miss firing. This seems to happen everytime the engine is put under load. So if I am doing 30mph and put it into 5th gear it starts popping and farting.

I have tested the HT Leads and spark plugs which all seem to be fine. My next thought was the coil pack so made a few phone calls and the cheapest I have found it for is £70. Before I buy this and find this wasn't the problem could anyone offer me some suggestions to what else it might be.

I have a 1.4 bravo 98.

Cheers Paddy

the car will seem sluggish if you put it in 5th at 30 ;)
run it to abut 50 before engaging 5th gear.
I have the same problem with my 1.2.
tis a bit rev happy.

Sorry Dan didn't mean sluggish it keeps on jumping as if it is stalling (Miss-firing) best way I can think of explaining it. It happens when pulling away in first or it can even happen in 4th when doing 40. It is very intermittent but genrally happens when the engine is under load.

does it happen straight after changing up?
if so, it may be the clutch slipping?

Had a clutch slipping on my old Escort and it feels alot different to that. It is after I have put it into gear and then put my foot down.

re coil pack

the coil pack on my 115 hlx went a few weeks ago, it just suddenly started majorly missfiring on start up then clear itself after a few miles, but these first few miles would be practicly undrivable!!! the pack did cost me around £70

Re: re coil pack

Cheers Deano but mine starts up fine everytime, did yours struggle to start then. Also it dosn't matter if I have been on a long journey or short.

Thanks for the help here guys I do appreciate it!

The procedure to test the coil pack is in the haynes manual. I suggest you try that first.

Ok cheers Tom, I wasn't being lazy by just posting on hear My manual is at a mates house who I won't see till the weekend. Do you think it sounds possible that the Coil Pack has gone.
