Hi
I have a 1.2 8v grande, ive have just replaced the gearbox with a recon 'box, car starts fine and with the engine off i am able to select all of the gears. I have also replaced the slave cylinder as this got damaged. The clutch pedal just sinks straight to the floor and doesnt return, ive have bleed the clutch and it still sinks straight to the floor. I have also noticed the brake pedal is rock solid aswell. Have i missed something do i need to bleed the brakes aswell??

Brake pedal will feel stiff, with engine off. Take top off brake fluid reservoir, and remove the gauze filter and check the fluid level under the gauze. Top up if required.Undo bleed nipple on slave cylinder and let air/fluid run out, with out pressing the clutch pedal, tighten nipple, See if that helps.

Hi ive tried all of this clutch pedal still stuck to the floor ive gone through a litre of brake fluid making sure there is no air in the system is there any thing else i can do?

Remove slave cylinder, from g/box. Pull pedal up,push push rod in by jamming push rod against gear box case or similar, and get some one to press clutch pedal down, does the push rod come out?does the pedal feel like it has some resistance.

Hope you don't have the co-axial type release bearing; if so you'd have to remove the GB again to see what's going on... :-(

How do i find out what type release bearing i have? And thanks for all the advice

I have removed the slave cylinder from the top of the gearbox, push the "rod" in an had someone press the clutch once pressed it forces out about a 1/3 of its total length then once i remove my hand it glides the rest of the way out but you then have to manually lift the clutch pedal to get it to go back to the upright position.

From that description i understand you still have air in the line.
If you don't have a major leak the other possibility is air in the system.
Air in the clutch system is incredibly had to remove.... should be slightly easier with the slave removed from the gearbox.

Ill try this now thankyou the old slave cylinder was pissing fluid out hence the change for a brand new one. Is the procedure the same with the SC off the box as it was with it attached.

With the slave cylinder off ,lift the clutch pedal up and leave it up , hold the slave cylinder so the bleed nipple is at the highest point, and undo the nipple(12mm spanner,I think.) allow fluid to come out, till no more air comes out. No need to undo any clips or pull pipes.

The rod from the old and new cylinders are the same length, arn't they? Did you replace clutch and/or release bearing? Was the gear box, from similar car,but think they are all the same.

Haven't forgot any return spring in the mechanism ? :-(

I have brought a 1 man bleeeding system an have got the clutch to bleed it still wont go into gear but looking at the slave cylinder its almost there would bleeding the brakes help with the last little bit?

Don't know about you Guys, but I'm feeling something having been missed somewhere...
And yes, BTW, clutch has a separate hydraulic circuit than brakes, they just share the same fluid/tank !
