I have a Autotrail Cheyenne 2007 840s with a ducato 3ltr with 21k miles, only had it since last week. The problem I have is when I start the vehicle as soon as I let go of the key there is a clunking sound from the engine, it stops as soon as engine starts running....The engine runs fine. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Could it be the engine mounts, there is only 20k miles on the clock

Does it 'clunk' when you turn the engine off as well?
The rubber suspensions on the exhaust had softened on mine allowing the exhaust system to float around and make various clunking noises.
Maybe worth a crawl underneath and check all the exhaust mountings (and exhaust pipes etc) are all there and doing their job.
Have you checked the engine oil level? Does the engine rumble under load when accelerating? Doubt very much if its bottom end noise with only 20k on the clock but could well be engine / transmission mounts going soft.
If all else fails turn the radio up!
Good luck

It very likely is the engine mounts. This was part of the Fiat fix on the 2.3 units as they clunked from new. They still say there is no fix required for the 3.0 engines ...... which is why I did not buy one.

Another occasional fault has been bolts working loose and falling out. The ones that attach the gearbox to the engine, so check that they are all present and tight.

OK took the MH down to reputable garage and they had a mechanic who had just left a Fiat main dealer and he had a look and said that the mounts look ok and mentioned the fact that the clunk is/was a n inherent problem with a 3 Ltr engine, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whom am I to argue, he did seem genuine, also stated that it all depends where the engine stops ie on what stroke depends how loud the clunk is!!!!!!!!!!!!
