So I have brought a new car, its a 1.2 16v Punto Active Sport.

Phoned CIS insurance up to see what the price increase would be from my 1.2 8v mk2 and they said nothing, same price to insure. They just charged a £50 changeover fee.

Also whilst on the phone I enquired about the NCB I was earning.

See I am still on dads policy as I mainly only use the car for going to uni, 3 days a week for 6 months a year and a bit of random driving. Just to clarify HE drives the car more than me, we're not just cheating the system.

Anyway back on topic
The woman i was speaking to said congratulations on keeping my record free of both claims and points, and she said they make exceptions with certain drivers if their records stay clean whilst on somebody elses policy.

Apparently if I don't make a claim or get any points in the next year they will give me 3 years NCB, and thats a FULL 3 years NCB to take to any insurer. Not just 3 years to use with them.

So the point of this thread is:
a) To point out how great CIS insurance is.
b) To ask if anyone else has ever heard of Named Driver NCB being like this.

We knew they did Named NCB but normally thats just for use with that company and other insurers won't count it. And if they do count it it doesn't normally count as FULL NCB.

I'm 20 atm, will be a month short of 22 when the policy is up as I'm just over a year and a half into this one.

Didn't start earning the NCB until I was 18.

But the woman on the phone assured me I would be getting 3 years, fully transferable NCB.
I still reckon she may have been wrong though.

yer she's right, some insurers do it.

iirc LV and N.U used to have the same thing for your first years driving but I think it was sligtly different in the fact you had your own policy and if you didnt crash/get points in your first year they gave you 2 years ncb.

Im glad someone else thinks theyre a great company!

Ive been with them for just over a year now (Im 18 atm) with my dad also the main driver on my mk2b first year was £750 fully comp and this year its gone down to £600...happy days :)

No im not, same situation as smokey joe, being a younger driver though its great to have cheaper insurance as most of the other companies i went to were £1000+

As long as your not fronting, if he is driving the car less than you your insurance could void your policy......saying thst though, how do they find these things out?

say for example your in a crash and the police arrive, you've hit your head.

police are like "where did you come from where are you going etc"

you dont think at the time so by instinct (for example) you say your going to work.

we get the police report say you (named driver not main driver) drove the vehicle to work. it's therefore safe to say you drive it to work mon-fri and therefore will be the main driver.

we'll ask if you are the main driver and let you own up e.t.c bet it depends on the case to be honest and the value of the claim. if you are blatently fronting and you know it we will just void your policy.

if you deny everything and say you were only driving there as a 'one off' we will just send investigators out to follow you and see what you (all the other drivers on the policy) use the car for.

in short, fronting isnt worth it if you get lumbered with a million pound claim at the end of the day. if your dad genuinely drives the car more and can prove it fine, no problems.
