Hiya folks,
Hopefully all the haters have gone back under their rocks now - so a more constructive post!
I asked my dad to (help me) lower my cinq with shortened 40mm springs and i showed him the guides on here. He completely agreed that the guides on here are the conventional method, then went about it very differently, saying that this is a method that he's found to work on some cars, but not all.
In a nutshell, rather than dismantling the bottom end of the suspension, he compressed and clamped the stock springs, then lifted the car so the wheels were hanging. He was then able to remove the stock springs over the top of the shockers having undone the tops, and fit the compressed&clamped shorter springs before recompressing them by jacking the suspension up again, refixing everything before finally dropping the car and removing the clamps. Job done - pretty quick too, and he's notoriously particular/fastidious (always reconditioning things and cleaning/regreasing before replacing them)
It was the same basic method front and back. Not only was it quicker, it also meant that the wheel alignment wasn't upset so didn't need re-setting.
If that sounds interesting to anyone i'll happily ask him to write up a detailed guide as an alternative method of cinq lowering. There may some errors in my description above but that was the crux of it as i recall. (god this forum has got me defensive!)
As i say, i'm no mechanic, but my old man has been for 50yrs so i can ask him for full detail if anyones interested in this method.
cheers, dan
