Cinq engine swap

Right guys I'm putting this post up on behalf of little Rob, between us if we put our heads together I'm sure we can come up with answer.

He needs another engine for his car as the 1.2 punto lump he's got in his cinq is rubbish and can no longer hack it on long distance journeys.

We are thinking tipo engine 1.4 or 1.6 or a punto turbo.

So I was wondering if any one knew for a fact if the tipo 1.6/1.4 or punto turbo lump would fit onto the cinq mountings?

This is what I know so far. The tipo 1.6 was used in the punto on an N plate so if the 1.2 punto has the same engine mounting points as the Chinq. Then surely the punto 1.6 would also have the same mounting points and the same goes for the Punto turbo?

All comments welcome, though I apreciate this is probably one for the tipo/punto /Cinq boys!

BTW its the dirty 8v punto lump he has in his Cinq at the mo. Not the 16v 1.2 as they are a top engines!

I've just had a word with my mate who does engine swaps for a living and he's say your right rob, but be careful on how old the engine is, cause they changed the mounts (not sure on the date) but a tipo engine should go straight in obviously a little rewiring is needed but that happens on most swaps, the punto turbo is a better engine and spare parts will be around for longer, but i think it's bigger than the tipo, so make sure it fits, or give the bonnet a bulge!, if rob wants to talk to me my e-mail is [email protected]

Hope this helps
Aidey

Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

the tipo 1.4 12v?

1.4 12v is a monster of an engine: noisy, not slow but consuming very, very much.. 10 km per liter petrol!

Re: Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

Any of the Tipo engines. We just need to know if the engine mounts are the same.

Cheers for the advice Aidey I'll pass that info to Rob tonight.

The sooner he gets a bigger engine the better. When ever we go on along distance journey. (cruise or car show usualy) we have to spend half the journey waiting for him to catch up!! and stopping at services so he can open the bonnet and say "that engine is pants" lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

The 16v 1.2 should be quick enough for such a small car! I remember one of the lads with a cinq on the fiat forum had done this in his cinq and also fitted a K&N air filter and stainless steel exhaust. He has a pic of his speedo with the pointer off the clock!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

0-60 its not bad at all wimmy but if we go above 100mph then Rob has to take his car to redline. So he'll have his engine of redline for a long period of time, which isnt doing his engine any good. So the answer is bigger engine. He's wanted to do it for ages now so I'm doing some ground work for him

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

Well he shouldn't be doing 100mph then! lol
However, mine doesnt redline at that speed

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cinq engine swap

I've been doing 130+ downhill with 17's o., no idea if it was redline or not as I don't have a revcounter in a 1.4s. :p I know if it redlines tho cus it jerks like a bitch, even in 4th at about 105mph.

Ps. Wanna take my 2.8 Sierra Turbo lump and put it in your cinq? :p :p
