Cigarette Lighter

Hi all,

Fist ppst on this forum. Just got a 2001 X plate marea weekend sx 1.6. The only fault I can find is the cigarette lighter wont work. I have checked the connectors and the fuses but no joy. is there a relay some where?

try swapping the cigarette lighter with another one, mine stopped working,then i got another and it was fine,..or is it the actual slot that isnt working i.e car charger..

Look in the center of the slot for the lighter, you will see 2 metal plates left and right, just pull them a bit to the center of the slot and try then.


But dont do it while you have the key on MAR

Thanks for the input so far. I have had the ashtray out and cheked the voltages on the multiblock in the back of the lighter. The orange wire has zero volts at all times. I have checked the fuses according to the legend on the fuse box cover and the fuse is OK. Owners manual is different though, and different to the fuses section in the running Guide ! ! !

If I remeber right it should have 3 wires
Black - earth
White - power for the lighter
Orange - power for the cig lighter light (ilumination)

So check the orange whire with the key on MAR and the lights turned on

sven is correct.

the ciggy lighter will not have power unless the ignition is on. kind of annoying when you want to charge something with the car turned off!

I have a problem with my ciggie lighter in as much as it stops working as soon as I turn the headlights on !! It's a bugger if I need to charge my phone in the evening, which I often do if I've been travelling and using the TomTom a lot !

Any ideas (considering I'm a true dunce when it comes to auto electrics !) ??

sounds to me like the lighting feed and switched live are the wrong way round in the wiring plug...I could be wrong though.

Roberto, take the ash tray out and see if the thicker wire on both sides goes on the same thick wire on the other. If it goes thick on thin wire you have what Dan said - switched wires.

If you need a guide on how to get the ashtray out - gimme a shout

And you sure its when you switch your Lights ON ???
If its that case - erm, must think about it.

Positive that it stops working when the lights are turned ON.

I'll open it up over the weekend and have a look at the wires and let you know.

Wierd Fuses

Sorted my problem. I checked every 30A fuse I could find. One was blown, not the one in my owners manual, not the one in the Running Guide here, a seemingly random fuse!

I am now looking for a suitable space to place another socket, I have too many chargers to use one !
