Just checked oil levels, tyre pressure etc. last week and then after topping everything up, check engine light come on. Took down to local garage for diagnostic and they said it was likely the camshaft sensor needing replaced and suggested this was the quickest and cheapest fix. Spent £124 on this yesterday, drove away from garage, no light on but get in car today and check engine light on. Had to use car with the light on but definitely noticed less power and stalled at lights which I know can happen to protect engine. Not too happy that I am going to have phone garage tomorrow and pay more again for the next suggestion on their list. Any suggestions and what it could be. Not great with cars and don't have the money to fund the garage's guessing game and pay for things to be fixed or changed that don't actually need to be.

Unless you have the fault code for the engine light then it could be 101 different things so a pointless guessing game 🤷 If you buy a suitable code reader or get someone to read the code for you and post it i’m sure someone could point you in the right direction 🙂

Bought reader and Fault codes are all for the camshaft sensor according to booklet which was apparently replaced. Codes as follows
P0011 01/04

P0016 02/04

P0011 P 03/04

P0016 p 04/04

Both of them codes are saying something is out of sync if you google it. Think i’d be checking my timing marks for a start in case something has jumped. Any history on timing gear replacement?

First of all, check the easiest thing, like VVT solenoid valve. Is it clean?

VVT wheel can be full of dirt too, but it requires disassembly, so...not easy.
The VVT operation. You'll need oscilloscope to grab the signals. This is real Diagnostics (not parts swapping).

Or it's a timing belt issue, mechanical (not hydraulics). Verify the timing using proper locking tools (forum Guide).
Worst case scenario is ECU failure or mechanical fault, like broken "key" in the timing belt pulley/cog (crankshaft).
