My dodgy 500l came with a boot that wouldn't open and I was very surprised by the cost of a genuine replacement catch. Saw this video which seemed to suggest that another catch would work so I took a chance on a £10 one for a Fiat 500 55701971 as I needed the connector too. Wasn't expecting much but it seems to work, don't know if it's common knowledge but it saved me a fair bit of money.

I have had similar on a Fiat Scudo tailgate one and a cheap chinese one has done the job, also window switches the same.
A small point some time ago I ordered a genuine Fiat pair of O rings when they came from the Fiat Dealers two weeks later in a correct Fiat sealed plastic bag I noted at the bottom it said PRC (Peoples Republic Of China) at a cost to me of around £37 so someone was making a large profit! :(
