Need 4 new tyres for my standard 15" Mk1 HLX alloys and have been advised to dump the 185/55/R15 tyres and go for 195/50/R15 instead. The price difference is significant (£50-80 for a 185/55 or £30-50 for a 195/50 so saving £80-£120 for the set) I am currently running 14" wheels with 185/60/R14 tyres and according to the wheel calculator the difference when moving to the 195's is -0.28% (read 69.8mph at 70mph)

Has anyone done this, or can think of any possible problems ?

TIA

Re: Changing Tyre Profile (15"e; Alloys)

Barakka,

I have 195/50/15's on mine. The standard size is 14" on the 80sx. I have no probs at all with them

Cheers Wimmy,

Just wanted to make sure before I spend well over £100 on tyres ! :)

What tyres are you going to go for? I have the Pirelli P5000 Drago's on mine. Superb in the wet but crumble a bit quick in the dry. You can get them for around £40-£50 now

Re: Re: Re: Re: Changing Tyre Profile (15"e; Alloys)

Don't know yet... currently running P6000's on the front and P600's on the back. The 600's are carp, but the 6000's aren't bad.

I've always found the Dunlop SP Sport and Goodyear Eagle to be good tyres. Depends what I can get at the time I suppose... Used to use Kleber and they were damn fine for the price. Have to find somewhere that will do me a deal for four.

Hi

I had 185/55/15s on my hlx got 195/50s now. They grip better. And yes they are a lot cheaper. I got toyo proxes ts-1 for £30 each. They are soft compound but I would say on a par with goodyear f1s.

I'm running 195/45/15s on my Bravo and I love em to bits.

Mine are Hankook K102's.

Elite in Rainham, Essex do Kumho 185/55/15s for £35.00 each fitted or delivered.

Jay.

...

I'm also running 195/45-15's on my Brava.

Falken ZE502.

They perform really good on dry roads, and also reasonably well on wet roads...

However, the level of comfort is very low...

I'm going to replace mine with somen 205/50-15's
Probably a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE720

Re: ...

i never likes pirelli or firestone as they just dont last! (plus firestone don't perform either!) I have veredesteins (however the hell that's spelt!) R14/185's on mine. They look great, have great grip and seem to be wearing well so far. They were £36 each fitted i think! They have the rain type groves like the F1's

Re: Changing Tyre Profile (15"e; Alloys)

I too have the 185/55/R15's and the front 2 will need changing next month. I have the standard HLX alloys and no mods in terms of ride height. Got a quote from National tyres for two Avon replacements at between 60 and 90 quid. That hurt a bit after spending £162 on a new exhaust there.
So is it the case that I can use a different tyre on the same alloys without it looking like it's on stilts?
If so, what is reccomended...sounds like 195/50 is the way forward!?
