Good Morning all.

Please can I get advice on changing a head unit of a 63 plate 500L - first model. I am considering a cheap android auto unit from Ali-express so I can link with the phone and get a reversing camera. I know the normal risks of the unit and having to complete proxy alignment. But will I lose anything else unexpectedly from the car? i.e eco mode, auto lights etc.

I replaced mine yesterday as the B&M unit was faulty. Removed the B&M unit and did a proxi alignment (though the clocks stopped flashing briefly after removing it, they started again later) Then fitted the new head unit and had to do another proxi alignment which reported the radio not communicating (may also relate to the can module on the radio that I fitted too)

After another proxi alignment it all worked, though I did get a message on the dash saying stop start was disabled and a warning triangle and flashing odometer.

After a run down a dual carriageway this cleared so expect it was down to the batter being low after having the ignition on while setting the head unit up.

Having a couple of minor issues with the head unit, eg it won't connect to BT on my phone and wireless hotspot simultaneously which my previous car did with an android head unit but I suspect that has more to do with configuration of the radio than the car.

The biggest issue was getting the old radio out as it seemed to be held in with a load of goo as well as the clips and needed a lot of persuading.

With the vents, you can reuse the original ducts if you take the fascia off and remove the flaps.
