Has anyone changed their detent springs in the gearbox.
Need to change mine as its jumping out of 3rd.
If so...
- do you need to drain the gear oil?
- Which one of the row of 3 springs is for 3rd/4th (the middle?-I think 5ths the one nearest the reverse lamp switch and 1st/2nd furthest away from the switch. pic 9.32A page 143 Haynes)
Looking at Fiat's spare parts ROM, each detent spring is sandwiched with a ball and a cylindrical bush, with the bush uppermost next to the retaining plate and the ball resting on the gear shaft. Haynes, reliably crap, appears to show the balls sitting on top of the springs where you'd expect the bushes to be (or are bushs balls themselves??) and makes no mention of the bushes. Whats going on??
