I'm looking for a CD changer, but I want one that can read more than the standard 70minute or so CD disc. So one that reads multiple SD cards, has usb ports, or reads data discs. I don't seem to be having any luck on finding one though. Does anyone know of any?

Cheers

A very quick Google search for

"MP3 Head unit"

found this site:

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/category_m-cd-mp3-wma-players_c-525_page-2.htm

If you don't care for *brand names then this one has most of what you need: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-in-phase-ips620sd_p-23031.htm

The other day I found literally hundreds of head units which match your description on Amazon as my mate was looking for a player with a similar criteria.

*If you get something from some unknown manufacturer then it may be hard to get it warranty replaced or repaired. It may also be hard to get spare parts in the future, e.g as another remote control if your current one gets lost or breaks.

Sorry, I don't think I explained it very well.

I have a head unit that is compatible with a CD Changer, so I'm wanting to buy something similar to this to connect it to:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/99-03-FIA...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43ad88637f

Only problem is that most of them only play standard CDs, I found something that has a single SD Card, USB, and aux port:

http://www.yatour.net/shop/?type=detail&id=46

However, that one only has the 3 mentioned ports and I'd prefer 6 USB or 6 SD card slots.

So basically, I'm looking for a CD Changer box that can have either 6 USB inputs, 6 SD card inputs, or 6 high capacity CD ports. Hope this makes things clearer, thanks a lot for the response.

I thought this intially but then also though, no way... but I guess "way" :/

The only thing I can think of is a standard multicard reader device and plug it into the USB, something like this:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/akasa-interconnect-s-35-usb-30-20-front-data-panel-inc-white-fascia

and plug in your USB Sticks and plug the hub into the MP3/CD unit and hope that it recognises it? Might want to go into a Halfords or something to test it first.

If not, then just get a headunit with inputs and get a massive 32GB memory stick? Do you own an MP3 player/iPod? Those can be plugged into some head units and would be much easier to manage. Any reason you want a changer? Not really a need for one with todays massive storage possibilties :s

Well I have a Seicento with an aftermarket stereo which has an SD input, a USB input and an aux input. Of all of those, I use the SD card slot most, I prefer having the music just come on, rather than selecting it from my iPod.

I've recently bought a 2001 Zetec Focus and it has the standard 6000cd head unit, which is CD Changer compatible. Rather than getting another head unit for the focus, I was wondering if there was any way of getting an SD card to play.
The stereo size is double-din, so a replacement double din would be expensive, and personally I don't like the look of the single-din stereos in double-din cars.

I know there's an aux output that I can put into the CD Changer slot. I'll probably try it out as it isn't too costly and make some playlists. I guess what I'm looking for might not exist, which is a shame :(

But cheers for the help and suggestions :)

How much music do you actually need?

I have a 160gb iPod, which has 4000 tracks on it and uses less than 40gb of space.

You can buy a 32gb sd card and a 32 or 64gb USB stick and most probably have more music than you could ever possible want, if you were so inclined I'm sure a USB hard drive would also work you could have 500gb for £50-60?

Why on earth would you want 6sd card slots aside from the fact that it would be almost impossible to navigate through them to find the music you want from your standard head unit if you read the description of that USB Sd aux device you will see that the selection between each of the three of them is 'switchable' so your head unit doesn't do it, you have to do it manually.

Your head unit will look at an SD card as if it is a cd changer, the individual folders on the card will be seen as the CDs the fiat head unit will only be able to see a finite amount of folders anyway

I wanted 6 slots for SD cards so that I could put a different playlist on each one for different genres, my iTunes has just over 6.5k songs so I wanted different playlists to include the better songs of each genre. The device that has the SD, USB and Aux slots can only read 8GB apparently. That's not enough for me.

If I was to use a single SD card, I would need a device that can read SD cards or USB drives up to 32GB. Although 16GB might just do.

The device switches through folders on the SD Card like a virtual disc, the CD01 folder is disc 1 for example, but like I said, 8GB isn't enough space.

No body is going to make a 6 slot sd card reader for cars, no one makes anything with two sd card slots! best you can do is buy a few cards and mount the box within easy reach.

Or better still buy an iPod classic and one of these http://www.fiat-accessories.com/Fiat-Ipod-Connection-Kit and never worry about it ever again? All your songs and playlists at the click of a thumb wheel, I fill mine with pod casts.
Also iTunes isn't always very happy to let you export music out to anything that isn't an iPod especially if you down loaded it on iTunes In m4p DRM protected format, you'll never get iTunes to put anything on an SD card

I know, Pioneer def offer SD card support of up to 32GB and Pioneer are bangin'!

This is whats on my personal shopping list as my DEH something or other has been dropped one too many times and the OEL display cracked :( Served me for at least 5-6 years.

I see what you're trying to do, might be easier to manage your music data with 6 separate storage cards however.... it's not the most practical idea:

Your way =
Cost of 6 cards vs 1 large card
Additional hardware required
More wiring
Having to go into your boot each time to update tunes (Even if you don't put the hub in the boot you'll still need to find a place to put the hub out of site in the car.

Better off investing in a new head unit. Single DIN facia's can be bought so that if a car has a double DIN slot it's covered up to look like a single DIN.

Ask Ford for the name of it and cost and then check eBay.

Good luck.
