A bottle of milk came undone and leaked onto the passenger footwell. My wife has cleaned it up but didn't notice that some of the milk soaked into the carpet under the floor mat

I think we are going to have to take the carpet out to clean it up effectively and get rid of the vile smell. Has anybody done this and can give me any tips?

Thanks in advance

Depending if it's solely on a flat area, hire a suction type carpet cleaner from a supermarket and repeatedly go over the area.

If it's more widespread, it's seats out and some trims , get the whole carpet out. (maybe get a professional valeter to deal with it.

I had an accident after a supermarket shop with a single bottle of beer a couple of years ago and I discovered by examination, luckily the vehicle carpet had a plastic membrane amalgamated into it , so the fluid stayed on top of the carpet, so it made it way more easier to repeatedly rinse/flush/soak up..

Thanks very much - that's more than a little reassuring :)

I'm not saying your carpet will def. be similar but if you can pull up a test corner of the same carpet, it should be fairly obvious if it has a plastic membrane built in.
If it has it will make clean-up a whole lot easier.

Fair enough. We'll have a look tomorow :)
