ANy help..
My car was making an odd noise when i turned right..it was like a cranking noise.

its dark but with a light i saw the passenger side mudguard was slightly loose
i guess it was that
so i drove for another half mile, and turned right into my road
and the noise increased and before i realised i coudlnt go forward, each tiem i rev it sounded as if something was caught.

i pulled over (got a push) and looked under but because it was dark i cant see a thing
but the car starts fine, electrics is ok, engine turns over with no issues but each tiem i rev there is somethign caught..there was a slight burnt smell

any help?? aaargh this car is giving me probs!

Driveshaft, gearbox, clutch, Any one of them. Or maybe the caliper has seized. Jack front up and turn the wheels Should give you more idea

CV joint

PROPER look this morning, had to push it down the road and whislt i parked it

(Didnt start the engine for the record)

i saw the passenger side wheel, and at the bottom was a drivershaft hanging down

went back to the placfe where i had parked last night, and foudn 6 (only?) bearings covered in grease.

any ideas? can i clip it back on etc.

please help..

thin kits a drive shaft..or Cv joint..cannot tell ,it look like a rubber, suction/srpign type device, its based directly on the back middle of the wheel (well it was)

Has the drive shaft popped off?
if it has and the bearings have fallen out, seen as theyre still covered in grease, put them back in and regrease it up.Get the driveshaft back on and tighten those bolts tight so it doesnt pop out again.Theyre allen key bolts by the way.if you didnt know?

see how you get on from there

you mean the 'ball joint' has popped out?
did you see the nut when you saw the bearings on the ground?

if not,you want to try find a nut that'll fit on the screw, then put it through the hole where it should go and lightly tap it in.and tighten it up with the nut. Without a pic its hard to think what you mean ;)

sorry about no pic..difficult to take with weather
and now its raining aargh!

lol

will have another look..thanks for the advice that i can just put the bearing backs..need to grease them

how many bearings are there usually/? as i only foudn 6 on the road..
wasnt able to find the seal..

The joint will be Kaput. Best get a new joint. In any case you will need plenty of grease and no grit in at all. A new shaft is the best way if you have not done one before

had another look..and you are right

the joint which holds the bearings in place has split..its in two pieces

i guess i just need another joint..

yer as above ^ sod getting a cv joint mate, whole shaft from a scrappy is cheapest option and easier to fit :)

A Fiat Marea in a Bravo Shell :)
Car Status: 23/02/10 - Heating and correct Oil amount sorted :)ready for MOT

AGREE but no scrappy near here..most have closed up to move elsewhere

If it is the joint do i need the inner joint?
a second would come with the bearings

but if i do buy new would i need to buy everything? hubnut etc?

if i were u, id go to ur local motor factors and get a complete new driveshaft as it comes with a new bearing on IF you get a AMK one, i know they come with bearings on, not sure about the other brand out there.

will set u back around £100 but ull have a lot safer car and less hassle replacing it.

Hi

i had to ask because the plan is to repair then sell the car

anything costing 3 figures will be a bit much as im trying to keep costs down

I do not think the driveshaft is complete with hub nut. What I have done in the past is to put threadlock on the old nut. Done hundreds in my time, Not had any trouble with em.Should be able to get a shaft from the breakers on ebay. Don't forget to drain oil from gearbox before removing shaft

But you have to consider if the shaft itself is damaged, Local motor shop here will fit a new joint if you take the shaft in
