Hi everyone, i posted recently when i had a problem with my fiat punto missfiring. Well after changing plugs, leads, coils, and ecu it turned out to be the head gasket. £300 later and its fixed. Been running well for several days now, still is infact, but the engine managment light has now come on again. Its on constant and ive done everything to try and reset it but it wont go out. Any ideas anyone? No change in performance since it came on, its running fine, im puzzled! Please advise me guys! Thanks!

Hi Samantha, glad that you solved your original problem but as the EML light is on you really do need to have the car hooked up to the diagnostic port to find out what is causing the problem. You say you have done everything possible to reset it but without the correct equipment I'm afraid there is very little you can do as an individual.

A long shot might be to disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes if you haven't already done this and if there isn't an actual fault with any components it might reset itself .

If still the same I would recommend taking it to a Fiat dealer and asking if they can run a diagnostic check with the "examiner" and hopefully there will be a fault code stored that will identify the problem. You might be lucky and find it just needs re-setting (fingers crossed) but either way you should get this organised ASAP.

Hi, thanks for the advice. Would a compatible diagnostic code reader clear the light or show me the fault, so atleast i will know if it simply needs resetting. Its that or saving up once again. Might just take it to the auction and see what it fetches, been nothing but trouble since i got it.
Thanks again.

I think most compatible diagnostic equipment with the right software should be able to reset most fault codes, except perhaps on newer Fiat models. So, hopefully you should be able to get it done at an independent OK. It might be worthwhile phoning first to check this first though.

Good Luck, it would be a shame to have you join just to leave again.
