car not idling

my mates 1.6 bravo has been playing up. he was on way to kent today and the car wouldnt idle at all in traffic. kept dying on him, he says he was in traffic for about 30mins. anyone have any suggestions as too what this could be?? cheers

Does it run ok when driving? any lights on the dash come on?

no lights on dash, and car was driving fine before then. just got update....he's says that car seems fine now after an hour or so, he was just panicking.lol

car is on w reg. done about 40,000 miles. regulary serviced.oil changed about 2000 miles ago. in very good health otherwise. except abs light on every so often
