Morning,

Does anyone know if there is a way of searhing a cars history? I.e milage, services history.

I ask as I am looking to buy a car for the GF - Peugeot 307 Rapier (thoughts Welcome) the one I am looking at is a stolen recovered and with 65K miles but wanted to see if I could find out more about the car first.

Cheers

Steven

Being a 'stolen/recovered' is going to condem it to being a 'Cat C or D' for insurance.
Some companies are OK about this, many are'nt and will charge you extra or possibly even refuse to insure the car accordingly.

Being stolen could well mean it needs new locks/immoblizer and was badly ragged in the process.

But such cars can sometimes be bargains if you're careful.

Checking the first 2 letters of the number plate will at least tell you if it's a local car or not.
The V5 will list the name/address of the previous owner, you could then contact them to ask about it, (they might not be helpful though)

As for being a 307, earlier versions are known to give electrical trouble, apparantly sorted on 'facelift' models.

Cheers for the info, I dont think I am going to go for it, the person selling it is not very helpful so doesnt full me with confidence.

I asked what damage was done when it was stolen and he said none - I am sure they would have had to do some damage to break into it un less they had the keys!!

only 2 ways the car can be stolen

1 lifted (hiab) and in this case is for parts

2 stolen on the key, ie broke into the house an took keys, /found the keys,

its too much trouble to break into a newer car to rob it (immobiliser) is to hard to bypass

Done some research today out of interest and found-out that you can trace electronic-type M.o.T.'s for a vehicle by going to the Direct Gov website.

Could be useful when buying any car to help check the mileage, at least in recent years :)

I used the dvla to check my cars past mot experiences, in 2008 (a year before i bought it) it had loads done and the year before that too.

To be honest it wouldn't bother me buying cat d S/R as long as there all in tact, normally cars are stolen now and parked somewhere (which is where they are normally found) to see if it has tracker If its still there in 3 days they normally come back for it.

track the MOT

definatly worth tracking the mot. you need the vehicle reg and either the last mot number or the v5 number.

it shows my cars right back to the first ever mot in 1998 and 1999...

one of them the milage is way wrong showing different amounts every year (up and down) but as ive been the only owner i wouldnt worry lol.

shows what they failed on if they ever have and all the advisories its ever had.
