So I went ahead and purchased a CD player for my 2001 Y Reg Punto (1.2 ELX 8v)..

Here is a link to the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=270214655079&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=017

The code was provided and manual, however CanCheck shows up on the CD player once inserted.. Anyone here that can assist me? I obviously know I may have to fork money out to remove the microchip but is there anything I can try beforehand?

This post contains eBay links which may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Or just get the microchip removed and then it will work. Lol thanks =]

Yeah I suppose, but I am one of those idiots who like to see a original cd player sitting in a car rather than an addon such as Sony, etc..

I have taken my headunit out of the car and checked the wires. I have a Pink/Black wire and a Pink/White wire, I believe those were the wires you was going on about?

However, looking at the configuration, I have a wire going to Can A but not Can B?

Help? Lol.

Don't worry about it (?) I took out my head unit today and it too was only connected to can A

I live in Brazil and I bought a PUNTO 1.4. last week I bought a MP3/CD Player Blaupunkt for this car. but when I tun on jut show CANCHECK. Anybody knows if the readio from Europe can be usede in Brazilian model?

ok so i have been dabbling with can net radios in older y w reg punto on the weekend with a friends car and have come to one conclusion it cant be done

even if you do connect it to the can net weather the wires are there or not with can a and b the body computer on the car is not programed to talk to it so it just wont work stop trying lol

Whatever you do, dont get the microchip removed!!!

As well as the CAN data, the chip (95320w6) also carries the individual parameters for your radio and station presets etc. Removal of the chip will leave you with a cd player that no longer works............

Your cd player can only be made to fit other puntos by having the chip reprogrammed with CANCHECK excluded - about £15 for your type or £25 for the older type punto cd players.

By the same logic is it not possible to have it enabled in the ECU?

The only way to get around the cancheck problem is within the radio itself. There is no way to remove the CAN signature externally ie. through vehicle diagnostics, plug in programmers etc.

The chip needs to be read, CAN data bytes identified (highly encripted) and modified, then the radio be reprogrammed with this modified data. On the older punto cd players (HIGH CD) this is even harder because the mcu has built-in security protection and when it thinks someone is trying to crack it, it deletes all of its internal data! A kind of self distruct  There are ways to fool it though.................:D:D

I heard you can get around cancheck with the wires, has anyone heard of this?
Either by not plugging in some of the wires in the back of your cd player, or by connecting them directly together.
