I am new to the fiat 500 world, don't have a car yet but i am thinking to buy one.
Can you tell me more about those wheels?

HI Tom;
I think that the car in the photo is a Steyre-Puch---they had a 'flat twin' (boxer) engine--very quick, won the european rally championship many years ago, and the exhaust in the photo would lead one to believe that the engine in this car is a 'boxer'. The wheels look like widened steel--which was quite common in those days, although no longer allowed over here (we used to fit widened steelys on the Radbourne 650s that I used to work on and build up--late '60s):)

I was expecting that although i was hoping they are ready to buy. Widened steel wheels are very cool and i always liked them.
Can you guess how wide they are (tire dimension) and if that set up can be installed on a standard fiat 500?

They do look good but watch out with wide rims with deep dishes. It can easily disturb the steering geometry and cause severe bump steer. I am no expert but learnings and I was told that if you push the tyre centre away from the axle centre then this can cause the steering to become messy ( but with a 500 you don't get much choice).

Maybe worth having deep ones in the back and not so deep ones in the front ( if space permits).

Hope you find a good one.

Not sure if it can affect the geometry or not, probably in a more powerful and fast car it can but I doubt if this is a case for the 500, still modifying only the rear will be cool also. My previous car Renault 8 gordini use tho have 165 frond and 185 rear.

Hi Tom;
it's surprising how things work out sometimes; I am staying at my son's house for a few days (baby-sitting grand-sprogs), and at X-mas I treated him to a years subsription of PPC magazine (Practical Performance Car) (a) as a treat and (b) so that I had something to read when I stay with him. Reading through a recent edition of said mag when, lo and behold, there was a letter where the writer was enquiring about----widened steel wheels! the answer to his letter was the addresses of 2 companies regarding widened steelys--------www.bandedsteelwheels.com and www.alonzecustom.co.uk I have checked, both these companies are alive and well, charge about £50 per wheel (original wheel supplied by customer)--hope this helps(y)

Aren't they cool or what ?
I'm sure I can do this here in Greece. Sure some of the old glory days machinist will still around.
Thank you anyway ill keep those links for reference

Here it is Chris back in 2005
1.3lt engine with twin webers, around 100hp, 5 speed gearbox, 2.5 turn steering wheel, four shock absorbers at the rear, all 4 wheel disc brakes with servo assistant and double the price of a standard Renault 8 or a Vw beetle back in the 60's.

What i liked most on that car was that negative camber at the rear wheels, make it look real bad.
My car had a Renault Alpine 1.4lt unfortunately with 4 speed gearbox but it was more than enough to have fan with it.
