Technical Can you change from solid front discs to vented on a 57 plate Grande Punto.

Some knowledgeable help would be much appreciated.
My son has a 57 plate Grande Punto 1.2 petrol.
We need to replace front discs and pads. Having used sites and based on the reg number to find the correct discs i have acquired replacements which are vented ones as all sites offer vented for the reg number.
Now that I've looked at doing the job the current ones are solids and about 10mm thinner than the new vented ones.
Can someone help by knowing if I can use these 10mm thicker vented ones as I don't want to unpack the new discs and then be unable to return them. I'm hoping the piston will go in far enough to accommodate them but I’m also hoping someone will know before I try.

They won't fit if the braking system is set up for vented.

To fit vented discs, you will need to replace the caliper and pad carrier to accommodate the extra width of the disc.

Correction: They wont fit if the system is set up for SOLID DISCS

Thanks for the advice. I played safe and returned the vented ones for the standard discs which are actually 8mm thinner. Having fitted the thinner ones i can say there is no way that the vented would have fitted as with the piston fully retracted there was only about 1mm clearance between disc and pads.
