Thought I'd let you know that I've just had a new cambelt kit (which also included a new alternator belt) fitted to my '04 plate 1.4 petrol Idea. Total price, including labour, was £150. I thought this was a pretty good price as I was quoted £200 and nearly £300 at two other garages.

Anyone else had cambelts fitted for a similar price?

Just had mine done for £200, thought the price was ok and they could do it when i was of so i was happy with that.

Seems like a good price.................
What was your mileage?..................1st one , I assume.?

I'm at about 33k, so maybe next year on a time basis for my 05 petrol model.

I thought these 16Vs were every 5 years? I did my 06 at 44k a couple of months ago.

OP, did they also replace the tensioner for that aswell? I am not sure how important it is to do it, I bought a genuine belt and the tensioner came with it. The job takes about 3 hours in total if you want to work out the hourly rate.

Mileage on my Idea was 68K. According to owner's manual, it should be changed at 72K or when car reaches five years old. I'd been a bit naughty cause my car's over seven years old. I'd just forgotten about it.

I presume the tensioner was replaced as well because the invoice stated that a 'cambelt kit' had been fitted. I can clearly see that a new alternator belt's been fitted too.

I left the cam belt change on my 2000 reg. 1.6 Marea at over 75k,and it was past the 5 year mark.................no problems!

I guess you could rack up 100K miles + or have a car that's well over 5 years old and the cambelt would be fine. On the other hand, you never know when it's gonna go.

It's be better if manufacturer's fitted cam chains again. They last forever and a day. Mind you, they do rattle a bit. Well, either cam chains or push rods....... ;)
