Hi,
I took my ducato (year 2002) to the mechanic for a problem with the driveshafts. After the repair, the mechanic noticed that the odometer was broken due to a broken shaft .. to make thing worst is that he cannot find a replacement ..
Is it possible he broke it while removing the front driveshafts?

Any suggestion ? on how to fix the problem ?

Thanks
Marco

Hi Marco.
Can you confirm that yours is a 230 model Ducato, and not the 2002 - 2006, 244 model. If not already known, see the first 3 numbers of the VIN. It will commence ZFA230........, or ZFA244........ I expect that yours will be the 230 model. If that is correct are you reffering to the flexible drive from the gearbox to the instrument, or a part internal to the geabox?

Hi Communicator,
my ducato is a 244 model it is the internal part in the gearbox.

Hi Marco,
You asked wheter removing the driveshafts could have damaged the odometer drive. I have to assume that the speedometer also does not work.
The 244 models have a sensor in the gearbox which provideds the input for both devices. I cannot see removing the drive shafts as directly damaging the sesor drive gear. What may have happened is the sensor and drive gear were removed to top up/ refill the gearbox with oil once thre shafts had been replaced. I understand that itis possible to drop the sensor drive gear into the box when replacing it. Alternatively the drive gear could have become worn, but surely you would have noticed if the speedometer was faulty?

Until you finf out exactly what has happened, and what is required it is not possible for me to make further suggestions, but others may have different thoughts,

Hi Communicator,
you are right both the speedometer and odometer are not working, the problem was identified by the mechanic after the fixing of the driveshafts before everything was working fine no defects were present (even the mechanic confirms, he testes the ducato before repairing it).

Is there a specific order to remove things ? I mean that to remove the driveshafts they must remove the sensor before ? or the opposite when mounting the driveshafts the sensor must be removed before ?

It sound very strange that this has happend when the ducato was in the hands of the mechaninc while he was repairing something related to that.

The big point is that it seems that there is no replacement for such component .. if confirmed my camper (valued around 25K Euro) cannot either be used . or sold...

Thanks
Marco
