I have recently discovered this Forum and find there's some useful pointers. There's some equally childish prattle about boy racing and "mods".

I've had two Bravo's - the first was a 1.6 16v, which looked the dogs ******** but was an unreliable piece of crap. My second is a 155 HGT, which I have eventually got after seeking for a good second hand model for nearly four years. It had a few irritating faults when I got it home (all of which were remedied by the dealer), but the main bug-bear is that it's not as fast as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, but I was the proud owner od a "SEDICIVALVOLE" (16v to the uninitiated)Tipo previously, which I thought was a good bit faster.

I dont know if any of you other Fiat fans would care to comment...........

But please, dont bore me to death with ramblings of K+N's, Piper X, Black Diamond, Dimma etc!!!!!

1 probably not.
2 ok.

Sure thing Mr. Ramjet :)

What issues did you have with the 1.6? Which year was it? Apart from the injectors mine has been reliable. (touch wood!)

Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

I drove one of the early sedici's many years ago (1991) and it was indeed a quick car, but I thought the Abarth Strada was quicker, but I knew how to drive that.

However, having recently driven a top notch Abarth Strada I realised that the car, although it felt quicker than the HGT, wasn't much, it was just not a refined - i.e. I thought my eyes were going to come out - loved it by the way!

When I first got my brand new HGT I wondered what the hell I had done in buying it. I had sold my Alfa 156 V6 to do so as well.

However, thing with them is that they need to be driven in a particular style to make them fast, the power is in the top band, much higher up than the old twin cam units and you need to keep the power on through the bends as the speed scrubs off very quickly.

Take a bit of time to adapt accordingly and you will gradually get the best out of it. It took me a while to work out what it was - oh and switch the air con off, it really takes the power out of the car.

Lastly if you want to get some more out of it drop me an email and I will advise according on what we are doing with remaps on the 155.

1. You just did and,

2. Thanks very much although I can tell that you're wetting yourself to starting blathering.

Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

Is it true that Bravos are actually Tipos under the skin?

My experience indicates that both are very similar because I have a Tipo diff transplanted into my 1.6 Bravo.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

Yes it is - same frame and chasis. They also use a lot of the running gear from the Tip too, which in turn is shared with the Alda 145 and 146, so I have been told.

Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

It was a "w" 2000, 1.6 16v Trofeo.

Troubles;

Airbags, Pertentiometer, Air Pressure Sensor, Injectors, Fuel Pump, Clocks and Gauges, Fuel Tank, CD Player. Will that do?

I bought the car from new and kept it for 10 months; it was that bad. The supplying dealer were fantastic though.

Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

I used to be fascinated with the Digital speedo of the Tipo and surprisingly I have never heard any owners complaining of eletrical failures in it.

Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

Hmm.. looks like the Mk2s were not as good as the Mk1s.

Mine has just had the usual injector failures.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

I used to have an Alda once, it was a bit like the Aldi, just different...

offers Nige a life

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

and then you sold it to Wimmy who to this day still drives it around.

:)

Shabash!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

I never mentioned the digital speedo of a Tipo. It was the clocks of teh Bravo - see other notes.

DGT speedo's were renowned for going kaput. See Parkers guide,

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

MK1's and MK2's were both dial speedo's. The DGT's were digital.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
GIMME BACK ME F***ING TIPO!!!!!
1.6 DGT. Never had a problem with digdtal dash in over 9 years!

Mark.

PS: Happy with the Bravo, just not as happy as with the Teapot!

Re: Re: Bravo v Tipo

Reade Parkers Guide and other Fiat sites regarding the digital dash. Sounds like you've been lucky. I loved my 16v Tipo.........more than my HGT.

All good things must come to an end and teh Tipo's style and design is way past it's shelf life. Maybe Fiat thinks the Bravo's is too - hence the Stilo?

By the way, was the 1.6 motor in the Teapot an 8 or 16v head?
