hi, my bravo is taking a few attempts to fire up.
it has been sat for 4 months until recently.
the first couple of times i started her she fired up first time.
but it has struggled for the last 6-7 times.
i probably ran it right down to the bottom of the fuel tank.
when it does start it feels like its turning over at 100rpm and i have to keep the key turned a few seconds more for it to reach 1000rpm.
i've given her a good run and floored it a bit.
pretty much runs great once she's going.
starter motor is working fine.
any ideas?
thanks, kristian

Sounds like a flat battery, measure the voltage on the battery poles when the engine is not running and when its running.
+ do a spark plug change

hi sven, i put a brand new battery in last night and it did it this morning. it also did it with the battery from my wifes car, and also when i jump started it. the sparks have only done 4000 miles. i need to check them anyway in case they are covered with gunk from the old petrol.

Well, the it can be the starter motor, sticking a bit - needs to get worked in again. And also the other parts need to be run again - clean the plugs, change the petrol filter and air filter and try then

Hi Mate

When was the car serviced last, you might find the timing may be slightly out, another thing to consider.

Is it only when the engine is cold when its hard to start?

It might even be the auto choke system

have only tried it in the mornings so far and at the moment the weathers fairly mild. ill try starting up just after stopping later. i've recently put the cambelt back on so it could be a timing issue, but it was fine when i first put the cambelt back so it might not be this. it runs well enough once started.

Have u tried depressing the accelerator a little while starting, if so is it the same.

it sounds like its flooded. the firing up at 100rpm and increasing slowly to 1000rpm is just like a flooded engine.

Hi

Have u checked the fuel pump, making sure its giving the engine sufficient fuel.

hi, could a too tight belt affect the ignition timing and be the cause of the non start? the power seems to have disappeared a bit as well.
