Bravo HGT erratic idle

I have a idle problem with my Bravo HGT ('96). Sometimes when I start the car with a cold engine the RPM surges to about 2400rpm. For about a minute the RPM is constantly changing between 1700 and 2400rpm, then suddenly it drops to its normal cold rpm of 1150 and all is fine. I've also noticed that with a cold engine the car is very hesitant between 1000-2500rpm, and I can smell feul when I start the car. All these symptoms disappear after about 3minutes when the engine heats up. The car runs fine (silky smooth......) with a warm engine.

Maybe you have a Sensor Problem

There is a sensor in your can which is called sensor of morning start.Sometimes it gets moisture and the result is the one you are facing go to your local dealer and have someone from the garage spay with silicon or any other anti moisture substance this sensor

Thanks for the info! I've gotten hold of a manual for Motronic system and I think you mean the temperature sensor that measures the cooling fluid. I'm going to try if spraying it helps.
