Not posted before but thought I'd share my experience...
On way home from work (rush hour) approaching busy m6 island, go to change gear, there's a bang and clutch pedal is on the floor and not coming back up!
Car won't go into gear and I'm stuffed!
So hazards on and I manage to push forward on gear stick and get just enough forward motion to get out the way of lots of irate drivers.
Park up, curse at the car, cursory look at stuff, pull pedal up.. Nothing doing. Call mrs and get her come get me.
I also should add that she later towed me home, with no fuss whatsoever, I'm a lucky fella.
Took car to garage that I use and they called me later to give me the bad news. I'm thinking oh **** here we go, new clutch, slave cylinder, engine.. How much is this gonna cost me.
We'll it turns out that the rear calliper had broken and leaked fluid, this of course being a Fiat is linked to the clutch system. The loss of pressure then meant that when I stomp on the clutch, it's gone straight down destroying all the linkages in the process.
They've changed the calliper part and the low brake pad, which I think May have been a factor and managed to salvage the linkages and put it back together and then put fluid in and re-pressurised the system.
All in.. £305 and a day biking to work!
Just another note. Before all this took place the handbrake became slack and clicked up about half again. I drove it and it seemed to get better, but then did it again. So I was just considering what it could be and planning taking it to the garage to check it.. Then pop, no clutch.
So just thought I'd share and hope it might save some of you a few quid and a frantic evening of working yourselves into a frenzy about how much you'll be out of pocket.
