My 1999 bravo 1.6 16v is not running good at all it starts ok no eng man light on but when you drive it is very sluggish and starts to miss their is new plugs and leads on it i am woundering could it be the crankshaft sensor as it wont take the throttle quickly it pops and missfires and will not pull in fiftyh gear at all can any one help
Thanks Rob

do a quick test. remove one HT lead at a time. when you remove one you should notice the idle drop (its running on 3 cylinders). if you do not notice the change when you remove an HT lead, it suggests there is a fault on that cylinder.

let me know what happens.

Hi i have tried taking each plug lead off and they all seem the same the car ticks over perfect i tested the injectors today and they all have a ohms resistance of 16.5 my local garage think it could be the crankshaft sensor is their any way of testing the coil pack
thanks rob

you've already tested the coil pack, thats one of the reasons i asked you to do the HT lead removal test. if you noticed a coiled pair of leads made no difference to idle when removed it would indicate possible coil failure. since all 4 leads made the same difference, we can assume many things, basically ignition and injection are both working on all cylinders. that suggests the fault is simply a sensor (which symptoms would suggest anyway, but its best to do easy tests first).

another clue is that there is no engine management light illuminated, which rules out many sensors (including crankshaft position sensor imo). lambda sensor is still a possibilty, as is the MAF.

a diagnostic check is the best way to find out what is wrong, but in situations where the engine management light is not illuminated it is not uncommon to see no faults found.

i would get a scrapyard MAF (£5) and scrapyard lambda (£5) just to rule them out before you go to a dealer.
