Hi, just had an advisory on my MOT for rear drum brakes "out of balance". It's 3 years since last fluid change (doing this week).
Does anyone know if the brake balance unit can be adjusted, or whether it is likely to need to be replaced? Car has only done 40k - I changed pads and discs at 33k, and I have just cleaned and checked rear drums.

You can adjust the rear shoes, take the drum off and use the adjuster to set the shoes so that the drum is a squeez to get back over them... that will balance the the braking for either side.. ensure they are bled properly as a bit of air on one side will cause brake fade...

Ok I'll have a look, but I thought they were self adjusting.

When you take the drum off and look at the Shoes there is an Adjuster located near the top but in the middle a Flat head screwdriver will let you spin it and adjust the Shoes out so that it makes it harder to get the drum back on... Adjust them so that the drum only just scrapes over the shoes...

Hope that helps pal.

To do this keep the wheel on, take 1 wheelnut out and get a torch, locate the adjuster and with a flat bladed screwdriver adjust them on both sides, this should sort out the problem, if not consider the brake line and there condition as to weither they and leaking or expanding. other thing is take the drum off and check the cyliners are free moving and compress but if you do that make sure you do the adjusted again once replacing the wheel. tel 07977573656 if you need and advice
