Brava 1.6 Just will not start HELP!

Hi Dave

thanks for your input.

We left the plugs out for 3 hours and blew away any fuel by putting a high pressure tube into the cylinder. Then after that and it still would not start. The battery is now out of the car and on charge and we'll look at it in a few days.

Hi

Really all an engine need is a little bit of fuel, air and it will spark.

That means it would try and start because it seems you have all that.

Is there any white or black smoke coming from the exhaust whilst cranking the engine?

Do you have an imoberliser on your car?

Dave

Hi

None of us looked round the back! I will check it on Friday. The car is trying to start which it wouldn't do if the immobilser were active.

Thanks.

ah yes i see only with the throttle fully open,

So if you don't press the throttle down the engine dosen't do anthing?

usually its the other way round, you turn the key and the engine trys to start but the second you press the throttle down it opens more air into the engine and kills any activity.
This means the wrong fuel and air mixture going into the engine.

But in your case it seems the other way round

i got money on it being the crank position sensor or the coil pack

Hi

I got it towed to an auto electrician today who spent two hours on it. It is the Engine Control Relay. It's running now but he has recommended I get a new one.

Thanks for all your input folks.

Hi

The exact part was actually the 'white relay' - it's on the bulkhead behind a black plastic protective cover.
