Hi, I have a problem with my Brava. The fuel pump doesn't seem to start when I switch the ignition on. I have replaced the fuel pump/sender unit, the fuel pump relay and fuse, the pressure regulator and I am now stuck. The engine is turning over and I have even tried the fuel reset button. Does anybody have any other ideas of what the problem could be?

The code light goes out ok and I am getting the correct voltage to the pump. The way it stopped was weird. It started ok and I started to pull away then it cut out and wouldn't restart. Could it be the ECU? I have a second hand ECU which I tried but the code light comes on when I switch on the ignition. What do I need to sort the code?

My guess is bad ground to to fuelpump.

You could try bypassing the fuelpump relay.
If it works like that, check the wiring from the ecu to the relay and from relay to ground.
If it doesnt, measure both the groundwire and positive on pump while it is connected.
Keep in mind that the relay also powers lamda and injectors.

I have looked at all the wiring and it is immaculate. The car has only done 40,000 miles. All of the grounds are clean an there's no excess resistance across any of the wires.

Could it be your crankshaft sensor? I know from experience with other cars (vauxhall & Alfa) that when the crank sensor fails it cuts voltage to the fuel pump.

Thanks for all your help so far guys, I've been checking all of your suggestions. I still have no joy with it I'm afraid. I have a second hand ECU that someone kindly gave me off a car that was going to be crushed. I tried fitting it but the code light comes on which obviously means the key doesn't match the ECU. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Is there a way of resetting the ECU to accept my key? Thanks in advance.
