General Brake probs

Does anyone know if there is a common problem with Marea brakes ???

I've got a 20v and now and then the brakes seem to go kind of stiff, I lose braking effort and I think I hear a sort of cracking sound ?!?!.

The discs and pads have been replaced about 600 miles ago. I've yet to get the time to check that all nots/bolts are tight.

Could it be an ABS issue ?, as the light has briefly come on but when the engine is switched off it stays off.

Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Mine 2.0L does the same - I think it might be the ABS kicking in, as it tends to happen under hard / moderate braking when (say) one wheel goes over a manhole cover.

Might be worth finding an empty stretch of damp road to test it on? Just brake as hard as possible, and if you get the same effect it's almost certainly just the ABS doing what it's supposed to.

Mine has the abs kick in sometimes, usually on the first hard brake of a journey which just happens to be at the bottom of a hill about 1/4 mile from my house. I get a bit of kick-kick-kick from the pedal and then they behave fine for the rest of the journey.

If I get the time I'll whip a wheel off to inspect the brakes.

Dont get access to the computer that often, hence the delay with this post.

Sounds as if you have the same sensation as me under braking, I hope that it is the ABS doing what it's supposed to do but I dont like the way it feels at all.

The other day when it happened I was sure that I was going to end up buried in the car in front's boot !!!.

Having managed to drive round the Nurburgring without a great deal of incident ( bar the spin on the Carousel ! ) I would have looked a right fool if I had stuffed it.
