Hi has anyone ever taken their Bravo to a garage to have a brake pipe replaced? The one that has gone on my HGT is the the sturdy metal one that runs i assume from the master cylinder to the front passenger side wheel. its corroded and leaking fluid. Ive heard it isnt something that can be bought for a straight replacement fit (the tube has to be made up)

Cheers.. Chris

Yep, I failed my MOT on brake pipes, cost me £90 to have the passenger one replaced and all the front to back ones replaced. You can do it yourself but its mega fiddly and I couldn't be arsed to waste a weekend doing it myself.

Funny you should post this actually as my hgt failed on 3 brake pipes on tuesday for MOT.
The ones that failed were the ones that go over the axle at the back of the car, and one on the front that goes by the strut.
Costing me £100 for all 3 and getting done by the garage.

Yeh, I rekon my pipe gave up the ghost while they was pumping the brakes extremely hard in the MOT. Went it with brakes and came out with none. Obviously they failed it because of the corroded brake pipe but also reckoned my Master Cylinder may need replacing because of a lack of pressure in the system. If the pipe was leaking though, of course there would be a lack of pressure in the system hmm.

Well think i only need one pipe doing so sounds like it shouldnt be to costly.. Thankyou Muchly for your input!

re brake pipe

This is an easy diy job and should cost no more than £10 including brake fluid. Remove the old pipe and take it to any motor shop, they will make op a new one of the correct length. easy job bending and re-fitting, Bleed the brakes

just replaced mine because of MOT fail, 5 in total fiddly job but not that bad at all :)
just the fookin snow that p*ssed me off :(

You guys must not ahve hgts cos I'm still dreading doing my fronts.

I did my rears myself and that took best part of day.

Pipe can be bought in 25ft lengths and 10mm metric male / females and a pipe flaring kit is all you'll need.

If anyones guna do this themsleves, i have plenty of red shrink wrap spare, so drop me a line (if you're gune do it - best mekit last and do it propper ;) )

It was just rerouting the fronts which was a pain (1.8, needed 7 hands lol). the osr i had to drop the petrol tank took an afternoon to take them off and most of last saturday to put them back on..
The garage wanted £180! :( but the pipes only cost me £38 to be made up! bargains bargains.....

Got mine back today and they had to drop the fuel tank, and take off the exhaust to put the new pipes on!
All in all with a new track rod end, mot and the brake pipes it was £221!!!

did my rears with fuel tank and exhaust in-situ!
(cos i wouldn't have known how to take em off anyway) and I had to do it on my back ont driveway.

well proud :)
