Brake Pads which ones??

My front pads are ready for replacement. Under heavy prolonged braking my current pads are prone to fade badly. Any recomendations for a good set of pads to help prevent this. I drive a Marea 20v with standard discs. Cheers.

Brake fade could be due to water in the brake fluid. You should change this as well if you have fade.

Probably not what you want to hear but standard pads should be up to the job for a road car. Competition pads will not work as well under normal conditions.

If you are using your brakes consistently hard, then check the condition of the discs as well. Replace if worn at all as they act as a big heatsink, and if they are thinning then they heat up more and could crack.

Boiling fluid due to water contamination will make the pedal spongy rather than simply 'fading'.

If the pedal feels the same then the pads are getting a bit hot, if the pedal goes to the floor and feels really soft then its a fluid problem.

Some aftermarket road pads are worse than others. Ferrodo standard ones are very good.

Whatever you do keep away from EBC, they are AWFUL!! Pack an anchor in the boot if you fit EBCs, you will need it.

Brake Pads

thanks lads, wil replace with ferrodo pads. Think excess heat is the problem as pedal is ok. Will inspect the discs though.

EBC?

Suprised at the EBC comments. I have fitted EBC greenstuff and EBC disks about 1000 ago and they are superb, but need warming up as you would expect. Once warm they are so much better than the originals, if somewhat noisy!

I have the blind drilled and grooved disks which match the pads, maybe thats the difference?

Give them time, the get noiser and noiser and as they wear a bit they loose their cold performance.

Its a common prob with kevlar pads. EBC are just a very cheap kevlar pad.
