General Brake lights

I have a 1995 1.6 Fiat Tempra Saloon, and the brake lights have stopped working. I've checked the bulbs and fuses, and all is in order. Has anyone else experienced similar, or does anyone have a suggestion as to what the problem could be?

the switch?

I don't know if it's hydraulic pressure operated, or mechanical, direct off the brake pedal arm: have a look in the drivers footwell, you might be lucky.

Ben Prince - I have just bought a 1.6 Tempra and have the same problem - no brake lights! How did you solve the problem? Any help will be tried and gratefully recieved, thanx

Sorry, I've only just checked back. The problem was the spring in the switch above the pedal. It's quite easy to remove once you've located it. I actually replaced the spring with one out of a biro and the brake lights have worked fine ever since! Hope you sort out the problem, and if you have any other questions let me know.
