Good evening everyone.
I have a problem loosing brake fluid and wondered if anyone can help?
I have a 2000 Ducato 2.8 Diesel, swift Kon Tiki S motorhome and noticed the brake fluid was down to the minimum in the reservoir.
I topped it up to the level which after a lot of up and down reached it, then after a couple of days I had to top it up again as it had gone down.
I noticed there was fluid dripping on the ground and was all over the rear of the front o/s tyre and on the back of the wheel and had run down the lower arms etc.
I had a look underneath and it looked like it was coming out of one or two of the brake pipes where they bend round to the cylinders, this was a MOT advisory last August.
I couldn't do much about it as I was away for a few days.
The brake now appear to be spongy with me having to put my foot a long way down, so I guess there is now air in it.
I'm not sure if it is coming out of the pipes or not as they appear to be bone dry, I know it's also not coming out of any of the cylinders front or back as I checked them a all few weeks back.
Is there anywhere else this could be leaking from, or does it have some sort of overflow anywhere, if the pipes do need changing, is copper ok to do this, and what is the bore size of the rear pistons if I have to change the callipers?
Many thanks
mike

I had the same problem in my 1998 Ducato; the plastic (?) coating of the brake pipe had cracked at the lowest U-bend where the pipes clear the inner wing panel and the pipe (obviously manufactured from mild steel:mad:) had corroded under the coating due to water ingress.

One of the other pipes had been replaced by a previous owner and I later had to replace the front to back pipe, so these are obviously a weak point.

I used some non-rusting pipe that I had (can't remember the proprietary name) as a replacement but the previous repair had been done with copper.

No disrespect Sir.... "this was a MOT advisory last August".
Advisory means this item should be addressed ...not left until it fails..

I've only just bought the Motorhome and this was our first outing in it last weekend, since the last MOT last August, the previous owner has had it parked up in storage and it's only done about a 100 miles
