I have just received some drilled and grooved goodness for my wagon (marea 2.0 20v weekend HLX) now how hard are they to fit? i have done the suspension myself but have never done brakes before (and i have stripped a weekend to a bare shell before too) is it difficult and do i need to get new pads too?

any help you can give me would be great

Thanks in advance

Robin

I've never done the brakes on my Marea but I'd have assumed when changing discs changing the pads was a given?

I'll be interested to hear your review of the discs I'm gonna be putting the Marea back on the road soon and my OEM disc look rather shagged. :)

Yeah i thought as much, i did a few years ago run 3g grooved front and rear with mintex extreme pads on my gold weekend 20v, and they were very good, this time i got some of ebay for £60 delivered but the pads look almost new (and i have only done 3k since last january) so its was a cost thing but hey ho new pads are not that much so i will get it booked in with Rog at poweritalia, will let you know

It's pretty easy Rob, make sure you support the calipers and don't leave 'em dangling by their pipes.
Spray everything with releasing agent and be carefull when removing the two fixing lugs on the front of the disc, these are very easy to round of.
Then just smack off the disc with a hammer rotating the disc every so often.
Clean everything up and put on new discs.
Might be worthwhile cleaning up the caliper slides and spray 'em whilie there off the car.

Cheers buddy, i remember ages ago when i did a set i had to release the hub nut on one of my inferior makes of car i have owned, but didn't fancy doing that again, maybe i will do them myself if i dont have to release that, i have plenty of cable ties to hang the caliper up :). i need to change the front shocks soon so i may do the brakes at the same time too

Good advice above.
Worth spending some time cleaning the mating surface on the hub really well. Some aftermarket discs do not allow you to copperslip them as it introduces too much out of true. On my Marea the wheel guides are integral with the (14mm I think) bolts which locate the discs. These seize in despite being copper greased and i was forced to use 18" Stiltsons across the guide extension to get them out once. Really easy job, I tie the calipers out of the way with a cable tie so they dont flap around straining the flexy.
