Hey. I was playing with the Torque app the other day and it showed boost around 2.3 bar. I remember couple of years ago when I tested with MES it showed the same, but I disregarded it back then as wrong reading or something.

Now when I saw 2-2.3 on Torque I connected MES again and did two sessions with two different versions - all show boost pressure around and little over 2 bar. The pressure it shows in idle is little below 1 bar.

I know these turbos (untuned) generate around 1 bar max, so obviously there is something wrong. I don't have any messages or stored errors, the car is running pretty well otherwise. I also tested HP/torque with my Gtech and they are as expected (certainly would not be if the car was running on 2 bar pressure).

What could be wrong, some sensor maybe?

I think you are reading the wrong sensor.
There are 2 air pressure sensors:
- one on the intake manifold ( this is the one you should read.. it will read around 200-300 mbar at idle... that is actually vacuum... when the engine is off you will read ~1000 mbar =1bar = atmospheric pressure);
-another pressure sensor ...the over-boost sensor that is installed on the metal pipe gping from the inter-cooler to the throttle body ( this is the sensor reading 2000+ mbar ..if i remember correctly mine reads ~2180mbar that means 1 bar atmospheric + 1 bar turbo pressure; once you rev the engine the throttle body valve will open and this sensor will read less pressure while the other sensor the MAP sensor will read more pressure...

At least that's how i understand it.

I don't really have a choice what sensor to measure - I plug my OBD device and run the software. I don't have a boost gauge installed by myself.

Anyway, seems like my questions is answered - I haven't accounted for the atmospheric pressure, so it's fine.

This is from Fiat manual
