My GPS is now 18 months old. I have always found that using the bluetooth wireless connection was not possible when travelling at speed due to road noise drowning out the sound of the caller on the phone. I had thought I had the volume at its highest setting at 40, as this all I am able to adjust it to. However, having read the sound system manual again, it states on page 24.
"Voice Setting function: With this function it is possible to adjust setting from 1 to 66 or cut off. The display will show the current status of the function"
Anyone got any ideas or is this just another fault to add to my ever growing list of faults with my car.

Do you mean you have the PHONE channel in the radio set to 40?

Not sure what you mean. In the Radio menu settings, there is a voice setting and this, according the the manual, is supposed to set the volume of the telephone voice through the car speakers. You are supposed to be able to set it to 66, I can only set it to 40.

go into the menu on the head unit, and the volume for the voice is on there, can't remember what its called in the menu, (external volume or something daft) but that's where you set it.....mine was too loud, I turned it down ;)

That is what I did before posting but can only get a maximum volume of 40 which is too low, should be able to get to 66 according to manual. I do not have an external volume setting, only a voice setting. Does anyone with a very early model GPS like mine have the same menu setting as mine, ie. 'voice setting' and have they managed to achieve an acceptable voice level. Or is there another setting I may be missing?

my "external volume" was a guess at what it said, it was months ago when I looked, after you said "voice" thats propabaly the option I used, but I could get it so loud, it distorted the speakers, so don't know whats up really....

a trip to the dealer maybe?

Yes that is what happens when I set the volume. The problem is that when you set the 'voice setting' volume, you are setting it with the radio or CD on, so it raises that volume also, hence the speaker distortion. However, level 40 is too low for telephone connection. There is definitely some other way of setting this or my head unit is as crap as the rest of my car. I really cannot emphasise how much I hate what Fiat has done to the build quality of my car, it really sucks. Last night another piece of trim fell off.

cant you just turn the radio up? on mine that changes the volume of the call, of the car womans voice when she speaks to you etc ertc

I had already tried that but because my 'Voice' volume is already at the maximum of 40 it makes no difference adjusting the volume knob during a call. Are you guys really able to have a comfortable telephone conversation when belting down a motorway at 70 MPH. I honestly struggle to hear the callers voice when travelling much above 50 MPH. My hearing is generally perfectly okay, so must be some sort of issue with my head unit as I have had 3 different phones connected and they all have the same problem. There is absolutely no chance that my dealer will have any sort of clue.
I had a bluetooth enabled head unit in my other car and it was great. Had the volume set pretty low on it and I could hear it no problem. Was a Parrot head unit and cost about £130, well recommended.

Right, so it looks like my settings are wrong or the head unit is screwed. Is anyone able to set the volume to 66!!!!!!!!!! as it states in the owners manual.
