May be a stupid question.. but what is blue&me and what does it allow you to do in terms of bluetooth & ipod connectivity ?

Thanks for that, now up to speed with that. What sort of devices are people using? It says: -

The device can be a USB pen-drive, MP3-player or one of the new smart phones, or even an I-pod: the only requirement is that the device be fitted with a USB port and that the files downloaded are not covered by music copyright, such as iTunes files.

Does a standard iPod not work then because of copyrights?

What devices do other people use 2 connect?

I was wondering the same thing. I just ordered my new GP 1.4 Sport with Blue&Me, and I have an i-mate JAMin Windows Pocket PC 2005 phone with a nice large SD card and USB port. So, is my B&Me going to recognize the music on my phone once it's connected via the USB port? Would be awesome! Has anyone tried connecting a Windows powered smartphone so far?

Quote from el Punto:
"I use my 60 gig ipod with my Sporting. WOrks perfectly with all MP3 tracks. AAC will never play as Apple owns the rights. Works perfectly. Gives me access to 20k tracks from the steering wheel. Oh and the Blue % Me charges the Ipod as well!"

Hi this is my 1st post and would like to know whether the 1.4 16v sporting I just ordered has this Blue&Me thingy. The car has bluetooth controls on the steering wheel so does this mean the car will also have Blue&Me as default? The car was for sale on the forecourt so i didnt get to choose any options myself but I would really like to be able to plug my nokia n91 into the car radio and listen to my mp3's.
Can I also ask about the wheels on the 1.4 16v. The wheels on the one i've ordered are 17" but they are a multispoke with 15 spokes not the 17" sporting wheels with double prong on the end of the spoke. Is this correct for the 1.4 sporting or do you think the dealer has fitted the wrong wheels. (the car only has 5 miles on the clock and is unregistered so its unlikley that they have had to be replaced from being kirbed or as a result of theft) Im due to pick the car up on Thursday and if i've been given the wrong (cheaper) wheels it will eat away at my soul!
Ah! just read some more blue&me threads on this forum and it looks like the best way for me to find out is for me to go down to the dealers today armed with a usb lead and my n91. Ill let you know my findings

dgable...the easiest way to check if your car has blue and me is to check the steering wheel controls. if there is a windows logo then uv gt blue and me...otherwise u havent and have got the simple handsfree kit. GOOD LUCK!!!

My GP 1.4 16V Sporting has the double-pronged wheels - these are standard fit, so not sure what the dealer is fobbing you off with?!

As for Blue&Me, I have it fitted to my car but there is no button with the windows logo on the steering wheel, just a simple telephone button. The way you can tell for sure is to check in the glovebox and look for the Microsoft sticker.. See my thread 'Waiting game for GP' for pics and other info..

Hi guys thanks for the reply. Well i received a call today when i was on my way to the Garage to take a look at the GP and I was told "We have good news and bad news for you" The good news was the finance was all sorted for Thursday and the bad news was......They had took my car off the forecourt to get it ready for me and they managed to CRUSH BOTH SILLS ON THE RAMP  They apologised profusely and offered me the same model which they had ordered and was due to be delivered in 7-10 days. They asked if this was ok and I said yes over the phone but I began thinking I really wanted the diesel sporting and If i wait then knowing my luck ill see one in the autotrader so i pulled in and told them I'd changed my mind. I asked if they could supply a diesel sporting but they told me they are like hen's teeth. They had a diesel sporting there but it was sold and that model didnt have the windows logo on the steering wheel but it was locked so I coouldnt check the glove box. I asked if mine had blue&me and the salesman laughed and said "Ah you've been reading up on them and he confirmed that all sportings will now come with blue&me enabled. I asked about the wheels and he said mine were sporting wheels so i pointed to the 1.9 sporting and he said oh yeah they are different but he didnt no why. I presume fiat or someone at the dealership has just made a boo boo with wheels. Anyway im picking my deposit up tomorrow as admin was closed and am looking for an ex demo 1.9 jtd sporting for similar money :( On aa side note the insurance I have been quoted on both these models is incredible cheap! the 1.4 sporting is just £303 fully comp and the 1.9 sporting is £440 fully comp. Amazing!

Well got me a 1.9 jtd sporting. its an ex demo 3000 miles for the same price as a new 1.4 sporting. It doesnt have blue&me tho which is a shame. It didnt have a windows logo on the steering wheel and altho there was a usb socket in the glovebox there was no windows logo there either. I also asked about the wheels that were on the 1.4 sporting and the Sales rep said they had had a memo that the wheels were changing on the sporting. So it could be that this new 1.4 sporting had the new style wheels on. True or not i dont know but time will tell.

The Sporting diesel will still have the forked alloys, whereas the 1.4 16v will now have the multispokes. There are however a handful of the petrol Sportings that will have the forked alloys as Fiat didn't make this change until a couple of weeks into production. Demo arriving has got the multi's, whereas I have a customer who has got the forks as he ordered a good few weeks ago.

I've noticed that our friends over the water have the multispokes on their petrol Sportings.

When i picked my car up last week from the dealers i noticed a petrol sporting there with the multispoke wheels rather than the forked ones. I think those who ordered their petrol sportings early are the lucky ones then ;) i dont think the multispokes are as nice

I know in some other countries you get the choice of which wheels you would like on the sporting....

True. In Hungary, you can choose from 3 wheels. Got the last option. ;)

You do not need blue&me to play mp3's
What you require is an IPOD that can be used by installing
an IPOD interface - the usb on the glove box will not work on early models.
I have just bought one of these from Fiat for my GP Sporting.
Part number is - 50901536 Approx £70
This then plugs into back of the radio and threads through to the small tray behind the ashtray. Then plugs in to an IPOD.
This will operate IPOD from the steering wheel controls or radio.
The setup is defaulted to run from playlists created with itunes.
Unfortunatly there is no holder for the IPOD with this kit.
This part took a lot of tracking down for me because Fiat don't seem to know it exists? Well worth it though.
This kit only works for IPODS -
hope this helps
regards
Shaun

Surely the new Blue&me is only a software update... the model was only launched in February. My 1.9 Sporting was due to arrive for the 1st March, actually got here for the 8th April (12 weeks after ordering, which we did 2 weeks before the cars official launch!), and is still waiting for parts to repair the broken air vent that it came with. If Fiat can't build them quick enough, are they really likely to change a key component of the car?

My USB doesn't seem to do much either... but I do listen to MP3 enabled cds... it even works with open Re-Writables.

I agree probably a firmware update is required - i have searched around but can't find any thing - need some clever program writers out to sort this mess out, i am sur it will come as they have sold a lot of cars on the continent with these radios, i do sort of feel cheated by the whole thing.
Mp3 cd's do work but you have to burn them x1 speed or they are prone to skip - only problem i have these is the distinct lack of storage space in the GP - why aint there simple things like a tray under the seats or am i being petty. Next to handbrake there is slots for cd's but they are filled in!

You have been cheated! Blue & me was not available until June (if you look at Fiat website now, you will see) but Fiat advertised it early. Ask you fiat dealer to tell you your bluetooth build codes, check them with the ones earlier in this post, bet you you the earlier bluetooth system which is nothing to do with blue and me. Blue and me equiped cars have a separate computer fitted, which is totally independant of the radio. Yours wont have this computer, hence it cannot be upgraded. Contact your dealer, check your code, and if you do not have blue and me (looks that way) contact Fiat for compensation!(n)
