How that works ?
The resistor block has 3 built-in résistors in order to drop the voltage that's delivered to the fan motor.
Position 0: motor NOT grounded
Position 1: motor grounded with 3 resistors in serie: high voltage drop, low speed
Position 2: motor grounded with 2 résistors in serie: mid voltage drop, mid speed
Position 3: motor grounded with one single resistor: low voltage drop, high speed
Position 4: motor directly grounded: no voltage drop, full speed ...
One can check the résistors block with an ohm-meter between pin 5 (output to motor) and the others; pin 4 is direct grounding (0 ohm) the others MUST show a resistance, you'll probably find that the 3rd one (for position 1) is open.
