Bloody fast !!

Just been reading about the new Yamaha YZF1000-R1

Its good for 106MPH in first gear, 0-60 in 2.5 secs and is limited to 185MPH!!!

It just made me wonder what the fatest road going car is and whats its top speed.

Anyone know?

aint it the Mclaren F1 200 + MPH

Hi, think it used to be the Mclaren up until recently but i think the new Koenigsegg (shown on topgear) is the fastest now.

Mclaren managed 243mph i think (on german autobahn) but Koenigsegg is supposed to be 250mph+ (apparently they achieved this on the most recent Gumball rally).
The new R1 is by far the most advanced bike yet, and would eat just about any car in a straight line, all bar those costing £200K+ Bear in mind the R1 is just £9K.
My old man has a 2001 model and can vouch you can spend just as much moddin a bike as you can a car. (try a quote for £25K-yes £25,000 for a racing clutch!!)
But they are only any good in the summer, and they are uncomfortable pieces of ****! (I'm 6'3" and getting on the pillion is quite a challenge!) But you've never felt speed like it

I'd take my 1.8HLX in the winter any day lol!

I stand corrected I remember seeing that on topgear but couldn't remember if it was a 1 off or if it was in production!

I got FHM in Jan and there was a super car in there which makers thought it can go 260+ (i think).

It was powered by a 8 liter quad turbo VW engine I cant remember what it was called or who made it and I have thrown away the magazine now might be time for a bit of research. It had a similar 0-60 time as the sweedish car on top gear arround 3/3.5 secs.

If you bought on (about £850,000) you could take it arround a test track made by the manufacturer to test the top speed

Who cares about top speed, far toooo easy to loose your license but more likely your life like that.

Anyone remember the old jap supermini cars that were limited to 80mph but got there REALLY quickly?

The 8ltr quad turbo sounds like the new Bugati, i forget its name, was supposed to be 1001bhp, and was certainly set for release. Seems now Bugati have seen the compo claims ahead and have said that it may not make production as it is 'too' powerful and cannot be controlled. Only way i could see it workin is with loads of electronic aids like Benz and Evo's have, but lookin at the reliability of The EB110 think maybe Bugati should stay away from electronics-even though they are VW now!! But yeah, i heard that was going to be even faster but it hasn't made it there yet.

Just for tom then, seeing as he aint too fond of top speeds, what would be the best car for traffic light grand prixs?

You know, quickest up to about 40, just to burn the younger boy racers off

Tom,Production car..................although I must admit, I keep toying with the idea of buying a complete shed of a car, one that has just managed to scrape through its mot and that nobody looks at twice, and sho horning some big engine in, make it a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Hmm.. not that many REALLY quick production cars, would have to be 4wd though.

As for non-production, the westie megabusa is quite quick to 60.

The new Audi 7 litre also has a huge top end speen, but they did not say the 0-60 speed it was 0-100 in something stupid like 6 seconds
