Well at the moment I am very cheesed off. Given a day and I may calm down BUT I will post now and regret later.
This mornings journey into work involved losing all power and pulling over. The cambelt had moved over to the left a little somehow and melted the side cover. The belt doesnt seem to have snapped as it still seems quite tight.
Obviously is a cambelt problem of some sort. Could have thrown the tensioner or anything - I dont know. The car is now sat on my drive.
Anyone after a project? Maybe time for me to consider selling and buying something a little more practical for me, 2 kids, girlfriend and 3 of her kids.
Damage may be minimal, who knows until I get down and have a look but at the mo I just wanna cry. Wheels, bodykit and Ice to be included.
Mail me if interested at [email protected]

sorry to hear that boss, see if ins wants to swap with you...

how old is the belt? would this not be a tensioner issue?

thats looks about 10mm away from a £750 service bill mate lucky escape there i should think.

Belt and tensioner were done at 80k by previous owner (had receipt to proove)
Mick - its still gonna need a change. There is def a cambelt issue and I would presume needs replacing so not so lucky escape.
Found a place that so called 'specialise' in the coupe engines around the corner from me who state £516 all in for belt changes. Will be getting it checked out with them. In the meantime if there are any sensible offers come my way via e-mail I will be considering them

re

when my tensioner went it was very similiar excpe tmy engine cut out, but cambelt didnt actuyally come off, but did push open cover like that.

i thought people did cambelts for 250 or something for hgt?

might be worth trying to find someone just to swap belt and turn it over? or just put it in gear and see if you can push it down the road a bit to turn engine over, but list for anythgin grinding etc?

i know how you must be felling wimmy, get it checked out before you go accepting offers on her. say to this garage if they fix it FOC you will give em some free adversting :)

hope you get it sorted and back on the road soon

Jay - Have you hexed me with your bad luck? lol. Yesterday I had to finish work at 10:30 to pick lad up from school who bumped his head. Today was the 2nd.
Dreading the 3rd n final one of three (maybe the bill or engine death)

lol, doesnt sound like much fun at the mo mate!
hopefully you won't get a 3rd!

See I had wondered where all my bad luck had dissappeared to last week when i got 5 balls on the lottery...

then it came back with a bang when bodge boiled all her coolant when (for some bizarre reason) the coolant reservoir cap came off while driving...close call for the head gasket! ;)

i blame ink black, that's gotta be it!

wimmy where was that specialist?

was it in Golbourne?
I know that a bloke called paul has a garage that specialises in coupe's around our area. not sure whereabouts he is in Golbourne -haven't a clue :)

James Twist Garage, Lowton Rd, Golborne.
Already done the lottery. Monthly subscription. Checked numbers and no luck.

do a comp test first before you do something you might regret....if the timing has jumped then a new cambelt with correct timing might resut in a lucky escape.

@allan £250 is just the belt tensioners etc will still fail so its false economy but people wont listen :(

wimmy, powerfiat do it for £400 including all auxillery belts and tensioners, but i know its a distance... could be worth it fpr me to do it though :)

Thats the only prob I have with Powerfiat - the distance! If I was nearer my car would have been there since the day I got her. You cant beat experience when it comes to these engines.
If you can collect Paul.......... :)

Wigan vir Spalding... pitty wimmy doesn't have a tow bar - he could drop the trailer off on the way back!

Do you have AA cover??? just get them to take it to power fiat :)

Gutted! :(
As Tommy says, get it sent down to Rog with your breakdown cover. I'll even meet you down there to get you most of the way back if you want.

tommy is right, aa wil recover you there... yo can ask for it to be recovered anywhere unless you have already had it recovered home.

If you dont know how to i can talk you through a compression check, alternatively just call rog, he will be happy to talk to you about it.

Or Tommy could meet you with the trailer or something.

it could just need re timing and new belt and away you go!
