thinkin of doing a really big mod on my brava as my mate is a mech and we both have some free time coming up and the fact the engine in my 1.4 is not workin again
am gonna see if its possible to put a engine outta a rover 220 coupe along with the turbo just wondering wat the dimensions of the engine bay in the 1.4
i know i will have to replace all the electrics and front runnong gear and discs on the back just wanna be different opinions please

andy

yep suppose i could do that but its raining just thought someone might know if i am gonna run into big probs with change of manufacturer as it was not even a rover engine is it its a honda unit bassically

tom i was always led to beleive that rover used honda engines thats why we were thinkin of trying this we are just tired of trying to fix one problem after another with the 1.4 and since i have bought a us imported car i thought i would try to make something good outta of something bad but i will bow to your knowledge on mechanicals

Its a common myth. Some rovers did use honda engines, easily identifiable by the word 'HONDA' on the engine and they are on the wrong side of the car as the crank rotates the other way. (gearbox is on the drivers side, not the passenger side)

The 12v 1.3 (I had one :)) and the early 1.6 16v engines were honda. The rest are rover engines.

you must be right i had a 216 years ago and it was a honda engine and i am pretty sure my dads 600 series (not sure which model) had a honda engine any suggestions for a turbo lump that is not i fiat i wanna be different

maybe i might look into that lump a bit further then could do a coupe conversion but just fancied being different plus i can get a 220 lump from a local scrappy plus the running gear he wants 500 is that a fair price or is it a bit pricey that includes box and shafts and running gear some of which i discussed with mechanic so i know i wont be able to use plus shfts will be too big so will have tobe made up

sounds like a very expensive modification. and you could get the whole donor car for that money.

cheers for the advice buzz will look for cheaper parts and as you can see from my post title "the storm" i just wana be different and can aford it now so might as well do something strange

Buy my 1.8 HLX fiat engine, and put it in your garage, do a full rebuild, put decent cams in, and some verniers, get the head flowed and polished, and go find yourself a supercharger off ebay from a mini, get a map-able ecu, and make it go. It'll fit into your car, mounts will be very similar and it'll be different. supercharger could be mounted possibly where the air con pump would go should there have been air con fitted, not that I had given it thought already... ;)

re

i woudlnt agree the rover lump is bullet proof?

i know 3 people with them and 2 of them have had the headgasket go fairly prematurely?

There are many 'rover lumps'. The turbo lump is not a k series. And as with any engine you can pop a headgasket through missuse, abuse and poor maintenance.
