I just finished pulling my dynamo apart and replacing the bearings. Now to get the belt back on. Does anyone have an easy way to stretch and fit the belt or do I just have to take the three nuts off and separate the pulley to fit the belt?

The only way to fit the new belt is to undo the three (10mm if I remember correctly) nuts and separate the pulley. Make a note as you do so as too how many spacer shims are between the 2 pulley flanges. You should have some surplus spacer shims on the outside of the outer flange (under the nuts), and with a new belt you will probably have to move at least one of these spacer shims to between the flanges. The tension of the belt is adjusted by the placement of these shims---the more shims between the 2 pulley flanges, the looser the belt tension. As you do up the nuts, turn the engine over, so that the belt finds 'its own position'. It might take a couple of attempts to get the tension correct, better to start with too many shims between the flanges (and the belt loose).

I figured that was how it was going to have to be done. I took it apart and I had three spacers in the pulley, fortunately I was using the same belt so I did not have to add or remove any. Thanks for the confirmation. Dave

Speaking of belt can someone tell me what is the size of it? Does it has a number so i can buy a spare one?

So I took my pulley apart and one of the holes was broken. I thought maybe I could piece it back together because the other two holes were good. I thought I could limp around a bit until I sourced a new pulley. Boy was I wrong. I got 2 miles down the road and all hell broke loose. I pulled over and the front half of the pulley was under the engine and the belt was hanging by a nail. I limped home and the engine was not happy, a tad warm. I am now waiting for a new pulley, what I should have done in the first place.

Got my pulley kit in last night from Mr Fiat. It came with four spacers. I originally thought i only had three installed on my original pulley, but when I took the stud bracket off the back pulley someone had put one in between the bracket and the pulley.

I put two extra spacers in as the belt felt too tight after the rebuild. I am out now with it doing some shopping. Glad to have it back on the road!!!

Quite literally after writing the post above, I attempted to start my car and the starter barely turned. It acted like it wanted to turn the engine over but just stopped. I know the battery is charged. I had my son pull the starter lever and looked to see that the lever was actuating the starter stud. After pulling the lever 10 times, one of the starter wires started to smoke a bit. If it's not one thing it's another.
