Hi,

I'm new to the forum but currently own a 56' grande punto, owned it for about 3 years now.

Last week I had to replace the alternator due to the red battery light on the dashboard appearing while i was driving and all the electrical systems in the car gradually failing. I took it too the local garage where they replaced the alternator.

After picking the car up I noticed the red light was still coming on when the car was first started and the power steering was still not working. After the car warmed up and it was restarted the light would go off and the steering would be functioning correctly again.

I thought this might be down to the battery being damaged after being allowed to run so low after the alternator failed. So I bought a new battery and fitted it to see if this solved the problem.

Unfortunatly this didn't solve the problem and the light still comes on when the car is first started in the morning. But disappears if it it switched off and then immediately restarted.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help!
